About

Adventure Dog Photography is the photoblog and (eventually) portfolio of Paul Lawley-Jones (Me!). I’m an amateur photographer currently living and working in South Korea as a university English teacher. I’ve been in Korea for about eight years and am married to a beautiful Korean woman.

Why is this site called “Adventure Dog”? Well, we started to call our dog, Mona, “Adventure Dog” not long after we got her. The previous owner, a colleague of mine, was unable to keep her, so we responded to the request to find a new home. We were told that Mona loved to go hiking, as do we, and though a little timid at first, she soon showed herself to be willing to try new things with us, such as playing in the sea, and being generally adventurous. What started as a joke turned into Mona’s superhero name. We even have a theme song (don’t ask!).

I’ve been interested in photography for about 10 years, but only been able to seriously pursue the craft for the last four years or so. The real boost to my photographic output was the purchase of my first digital camera, a Nikon D80, about three years ago. Additionally I had been thinking of setting up my own photo blog/portfolio/gallery/site for a while, but was having trouble thinking up a name that wasn’t either clichéd or completely naff.

The epiphany came after I succeeded in taking a picture of Adventure Dog in a suitable superhero-like pose. Call the site Adventure Dog Photography. It’s snappy, scans well, and is weird enough for people to remember. And I can tell the story of the name at exclusive celebrity parties, maybe, someday.

I’m an avid user and supporter of Open Source technologies. I use Linux as my operating system of choice and Ubuntu as my distribution.

The one application that is paid for is a professional digital post processing application called Bibble from Bibble Labs.

Adventure Dog Photography is hosted by Easyspace on a Linux server running Apache, MySQL and PHP.

The blog script is the fantastic WordPress by Matt Mullenweg. The theme used is Mansion by Graphpaper Press.

My photos on the web

Some of my photos have been used on other web pages. One or two I knew about beforehand, others I found out by accident. Here’s a list in no particular order …
